Two publishing industry associations announced Thursday that they will merge into a single organization later this year.
The $2 million-revenue Idealliance will absorb the $4 million-revenue Epicomm by July 1. The merged association will be based out of Epicomm's offices in Alexandria, Va.
Idealliance—which is short for International Digital Enterprise Alliance—represents both digital and print publishers. Epicomm was formed in 2015 by the merger of three publishing industry associations. Members of both groups approved the merger earlier this week.
"We are very gratified that our respective memberships agree wholeheartedly with our boards and numerous industry observers that this merger will be highly beneficial to both associations' members and to the industry at large," said Idealliance CEO David Steinhardt, who will continue to lead the organization after the merger.
Epicomm CEO Ken Gardner will become executive vice president of Idealliance. Neither group said what other staff changes could take place. Epicomm reported 25 staff on its most recent tax records while Idealliance reported 10 staff.
The merged group will have about 3,000 members, with half coming from Epicomm and the other half coming from Idealliance. Fewer than 130 companies currently have dual memberships.
